  • Research uncovered six new criteria for a "good" learning toy

  • Dozens of concepts leveraged ideas of natural learning and learning that went beyond ABC's

  • Learning Friend Tad promotes social and symbol learning

Just learn naturally

Leapfrog wanted a grow-with-me learning toy that made productive use of stationary time for children ages 6 to 24 months. Through research with parents, Point Forward developed six new learning toy criteria for children in this age group. One criteria, "intersubjectivity," emphasized parent’s desire to participate in their child’s learning. Toy concepts based on this criteria allowed the parent to add to the toy’s interactivity while they played with their child. Other concepts focused on more natural types of learning including social and cultural learning. The successful Learning Friend Tad toy leverages the concept of a buddy to promote social and symbol learning.
